Daybook

Outside my window...
It is finally, finally bright and sunny! Over the past twenty-five days or so, twenty-two have been filled with rain. The garden is overrun with weeds, and I discovered my hair can frizz to all new heights in what felt like a southeast Asian monsoon season. I can't wait to get outside and enjoy some of that sun before another round of rain rolls in this week.

I am thinking...
I have been researching a lot about vitamin supplementation, and how certain vitamins and minerals work synergistically together. I try to eat a healthy, balanced diet to cover what I need, but it's good to know what foods I should focus on to help boost the nutrients my body needs. For example, who knew you should add a crack of black pepper or two when you have turmeric in a recipe, to help your body absorb the inflamation-fighting power of the turmeric better?

I am thankful...
For all your prayers during my recent job hunt. They have definitely helped! I may have some good news I can share publicly very soon.

In the kitchen...
I have been experimenting with a lot of delicious recipes. Last Friday, I made miso glazed scallops, which were a huge hit. I forgot to take any pictures, and they were eaten very quickly! I will try to post the recipe for What I Ate Wednesday, as it was easy-peasy and tasted great.

I am wearing...
Workout clothes, as I am looking forward to hitting up my new routine very soon. I've combined pilates, yoga, Callanetics (yes, that funny 80s video, but it really works!), and some ballet barre moves for a behemoth, one-hour routine that pushes me to my limits every time. A little of this and a little of that, but I really enjoy it and I'm starting to see results.

I've also got a run on this afternoon's schedule. We will see how that goes. I keep trying to like running. It will stick eventually, right?

I am creating...
Nothing right now. I worked very hard at creating some baby gifts for two dear friends, and I am crafted out! I need to give my wrists a rest before I get back into the giant afghan I've been puttering away at.

Aren't these just the cutest?

I am going...
I don't have any big trips planned for the month of July so far. I will be taking a day trip to see a good friend this week, as well as a trip to another city for my cousin's wedding at the end of the month. The way this month is filling in with plans, I think that's all the traveling I will be doing. August, however, is shaping up to be a lot of fun. I will share those plans with you all once things are more firmed up.

I am wondering...
What book to read next. Thinking about picking up Shelby Foote's epic Civil War history, but I keep being put off by the 834 or so pages. I might want to read something lighter first to gear up for it. Any recommendations?

I am reading...
See above! Trying to decide what to read next is always a challenge, as my list is far too long.

I am hoping...
For some of these good habits I've been developing over the past two months to stick. I always hear how it takes twenty-one days to build a new habit, but for me, it seems to take longer. Here's hoping it takes less than one hundred days of effort to get some of these things to stick!

I am looking forward to...
The Dublin Irish Festival! It's the largest in the nation and I know The Boyfriend people are sick of me going on about how excited I am for it. HOWEVER, it is second only to Christmas as my favorite time of year, so my enthusiasm cannot be dampened. Everyone should go at least once!

I am learning...
A lot about Japanese cooking. I am on a serious Asian food kick, and it's been fun trying my hand at all sorts of new recipes. I'm fortunate to have a number of good Asian markets where I live, so it's easy to get some of the rare ingredients that would be harder to find at a local grocery. I am also lucky that the groceries place English ingredient labels on the back of the bottles and packages, otherwise I would be at a loss.

Around the house...
I'm painting the laundry room this week. Hopefully "festival green" will look as good on the walls as it did on the paint chip!

I am pondering...
How hard change can be, even when you want it.

I am praying...
That new developments continue to go smoothly and I will be able to share publicly some good news about my job hunt in the next week or two. Please say a prayer for me, too. I am very excited for this opportunity and I am hoping all will work out.

A favorite quote for today...
Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.
- St. Francis of Assisi

One of my favorite things...

Good, fresh tomatoes in summer are a revelation. I could eat them for every meal. My favorite is Caprese salad with lots of basil. Heaven!

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Being productive, no matter what my plans may be. This free time I have is an opportunity to pursue things I have been too busy to enjoy. Going to make these days count.

A peek into my day...
