Daybook

Outside my window...
It is very gray and gloomy - the wind is pushing clouds, leaves, and trees around forcefully. It looks very November, even if the temperatures feel more like October.

I am thinking...
About how difficult it can be to set plans and goals, and then stick with them. I've always struggled with the "follow through." Procrastination is a bad habit I need to break, once and for all. But how do you break a bad habit like that? It's so nebulous, and it can creep into so many parts of my life. This is going to be a hard thing to tackle.

I am thankful...
For family and friends. I know it feels obligatory to say so the week of Thanksgiving, but I truly am. I am very lucky to have so many near and dear.

In the kitchen...
I made a fantastic vegetable soup for lunches this week - and promptly forgot it on the way out of the house this morning! I took a little taste yesterday when I was seasoning it, and I'm really regretting that I forgot it. Quick and dirty recipe: a bunch of carrots, one onion, a couple cloves of garlic, one head of cabbage, and one large can of crushed tomatoes. Cook until soft, and puree into a delicious, healthy soup. I seasoned with salt, pepper, turmeric, paprika, basil, and oregano. Delicious!

I am wearing...
A pants suit, as I can't imagine anything more ungainly than trying to wrangle a dress or skirt on the way to court in high winds, while wrangling an umbrella. Grace is not my middle name.

I am creating...
Dishcloths. Or rather, dish scrubby things, as they are quite small and rather nubby. I wanted something to scrub pots that I could wash thoroughly, rather than a gross sponge. Two balls of sugar and cream from the stash down, ten thousand balls to go.

I am going...
To be doing quite a bit of traveling this coming weekend. First to Canton for The Boyfriend's Thanksgiving, then to my grandmother's in Canton for more Thanksgiving, then a bridal shower for one of the Boyfriend's cousins Friday morning in Canton, then more Thanksgiving with The Boyfriend's grandparents in Youngstown Friday night. They're going to be rolling me into the office Monday morning.

I am wondering...
Which elastic waistband pants I should pack. Only mostly kidding!

I am reading...
Robert Ringer's Million Dollar Habits - it's a recommendation from The Boyfriend. He's got the idea in his head that I read too many romance novels and historical fiction set in England. "Those Queen Victoria books, again?" Everything is a "Queen Victoria book," from Georgette Heyer novels to biographies of the Queen Mum.

I am hoping...
To get into the habit of doing yoga every day. I have an app on my phone and everything. I feel so much better when I do it. But I just can't seem to get myself out of bed any earlier than 5:45 in the mornings. I think I need a time turner.

I am looking forward to...
Thanksgiving with my family. Yes, this is trite and cliche, but it's true.

I am learning...
Latin. Verrry, verrry slowly.

Around the house...
Starting to prep for Christmas, with its decorations and hostessing. My brother's girlfriend didn't have a Christmas tree growing up (they're Buddhist), and so my mom has a tree for her to decorate. Said girlfriend is a fabulous event designer, so I'm really looking forward to seeing the amazing tree she comes up with. Pictures to follow!

I am pondering...
Whether I could swing getting a pygmy marmoset as a pet after seeing this adorable video:

I am praying...
For a private personal intention. If you could pray for me or keep me in your thoughts, I'd appreciate it. I've been saying a lot of prayers to St. Cajetan.

A favorite quote for today...
It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop. - Confucius. I need to keep this in the forefront of my mind, particularly whenever I go for a run, ha.

One of my favorite things...
I purchased a new pair of gloves - black, elbow length, and with buttons all the way up the side. I love them! So very Anne Shirley (and/or Scandal, if that's your viewing pleasure).

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Yoga, yoga, yoga. Hydrate in preparation for turkey day. Try and get a run or two in. Start wrapping my Christmas presents (yes, I'm done!). Finish reading my book, and try and journal some more. How is it almost the end of the year already?

A peek into my day...
Staring outside at this gloomy day and missing everything about this moment in NYC. For a few minutes, everything in life was perfect.
